Disney World updates DinoLand, U.S.A. closing timeline
The iconic Cementosaurus that towered over DinoLand U.S.A. is now dust, but most of the rest of the area will still be operational throughout 2025 before closing, Disney announced.
As has been previously announced, DinoLand U.S.A. is going away at Animal Kingdom in Disney World to make way for the Tropical Americas land.
With a lot of questions about when things will close and when the area will open Disney released information on its timeline.
Here’s what we know:
When is DinoLand Closing?
No specific dates have been announced on when the area will close, other than Disney saying everything open will remain open through 2025. It is not known if in January 2026 the attractions and restaurants will close, but it is likely since Disney is planning on opening Tropical Americas sometime in 2027.
What’s already closed?
TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures closed on Jan. 12, 2025. This allows Disney to start major construction on this area for the new Encanto attraction. This will require a new ride building and landscaping.
When will DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus and Boneyard close?
This is a bit trickey DINOSAUR is going to close in 2026, again it could be January. As for the the remainder of the area, Disney is saying that they will be open through 2025.
What is Tropical Americas Land?
According to Disney, Tropical Americas — better known as Pueblo Esperanza — will be a new 11-acre lush and sprawling area. Just like Harambe, this land will feel lived in, with a long, rich history. Not only will the land include a hacienda — which will be one of the largest quick-service restaurants at Disney World — but also two signature attractions for Indiana Jones and Encanto.
Additionally, the area will feature a large fountain in the center and a local woodcarver has created a giant working carousel featuring his favorite animals from Disney stories.
The first-ever “Encanto”-themed ride-through attraction will feature the beloved Madrigal family from the ovie. Inside the Casita, Antonio has just received his special gift — the ability to communicate with animals — and his room has transformed into a rainforest. It’s time to go explore alongside him. This keeps the animal them in tact for Animal Kingdom. This is the area that will need the most work to create since it is from scratch, so all new buildings and a new ride system will need to be built.
The new Indiana Jones experiece centers on Indy recently discovering a perfectly preserved Maya temple, and guests will help Indy explore the site. He’s heard rumors about a mythical creature deep within the temple. Most likely this will be changing the Dino Insitute into a temple and retheming the DINOSAUR ride. The attraction ride system is the same one used for the Indiana Jone Adventure in Disneyland where you explore a help Indy explore a temple.
