Disney World replacing its fireworks show at Magic Kingdom in May

Disney World is replacing its “Wishes” fireworks this May with a new one that will include projection mapping on Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom.

“Happily Ever After” will debut May 12, 2017 and feature a new original score as adventures of Disney characters are retold.

The 18-minute show will feature not only fireworks and lasers but scenes projected on the 18-story Cinderella Castle from 25 Disney films, including: “Moana,” “Brave,” “Big Hero 6,” “Zootopia,” “The Princess & The Frog” and “Aladdin.”

Some of the scenes include Quasimodo from “Hunchback of Notre Dame” swings from the turrets. Woody and his pals from Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story” recreate the castle entirely out of toys. And Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty” envelops the castle in her signature green flames, according to a Disney news release.

And yes, Tinker Bell still flies across the sky from the castle.

According to Disney, “The story begins with scenes of fantastic dreams full of hope, wonder, magic and light. Disney villains soon become part of the story, attempting to quash those beautiful dreams and forcing the heroes to fight for what they believe in. Overcoming their fears, the heroes triumph and are celebrated with spectacular fireworks.”

“Happily Ever After” will be presented nightly.

“Wishes” will end on May 11. The 12-minute show how has been around in various forms since Oct. 9, 2003. This show is hosted by Jiminy Cricket and the Blue Fairy, and focuses on the wishes of famous Disney characters – good and bad.
