‘Finding Dory’ is now No. 6 highest grossing animated release in the U.S.
“Finding Dory” tops the box office charts for the third week in a row and and is number six on the highest grossing animated release of all time in the U.S., according to boxofficemojo.com.
“Disney’s ‘Finding Dory’ continues to swim the world’s box office oceans and tops the $500 million mark in the wake of a $76.3 million weekend,” comScore’s Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian said in a news release.
The sequel to “Finding Nemo” is a few million dollars short of overtaking the original and becoming the fifth highest grossing animated release of all time, according to boxofficemojo.com.
It also ranks 141 on the worldwide gross list of movies released after 1980.
The movie has Ellen DeGeneres return as the voice of Dory, the blue tang fish with short term memory loss. The movie is supposed to take place six months after what happened in “Finding Nemo” when Dory recalls some childhood memories. She is then on a quest to find her family with with Marlin, voice by Albert Brooks and Nemo, voiced by Hayden Rolence, in tow.
