14 photos from the opening of Shanghai Disneyland

Disney officially opened its sixth Disney Resort in the world on June 16, 2016 with the grand opening of the Shanghai Disney Resort, the first in Mainland China.

Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company, and Chinese officials cut a red-and-gold ribbon dedicating Shanghai Disneyland. Joining Iger were Wang Yang, CPC Politburo Member and State Council Vice Premier, and Han Zheng, CPC Politburo Member and Party Secretary of Shanghai.

The Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group have joined together to invest in Shanghai Disney Resort. Disney owns 43 percent and the Shanghai Shendi Group owns 57 percent. The Shanghai Shendi Group Co., Ltd. is a 100 percent state-owned.

Iger shared a greeting similar to the one Walt Disney said on opening day for the original Disneyland, in 1955: “To all who come to this happy place, welcome.”
