Disney will no longer issue stock certificates

Disney stock certificate

Bad news for Disney fans who would like to add an official stock certificate to their collections or give one as a gift.

As of Oct. 16, the company will no longer issue paper stock certificates, Bloomberg News is reporting.

Disney is hardly the first company to stop issuing paper shares, but then again, most companies’ stock certificates aren’t collector’s items. Certificates dating to the company’s initial public stock offering and hand-signed by Disney can fetch more than $25,000, Bloomberg reported.

If you want to buy a framed Disney stock certificate, there’s still time. Check out oneshare.com (about $105 for a framed share) or giveashare.com (about $120-$145, depending on the frame).

For those who want something to show for their purchase after Oct. 16, Disney says it will issue a “certificate of acquisition.”
