4 new restaurants announced for Disney Springs at Disney World

The four new dining venues announced this week for Disney Springs fill a couple of gaping voids in the Disney World dining universe — plus show us a couple we never knew existed.

Filling the gaps

There are a lot of hamburgers at Disney World. A lot. Some of them are even good. That hasn’t stopped our eternal search for the best one of all — perhaps inspired by too many lukewarm Tomorrowland Terrace burgers. Today’s announcement brings us another venue to try: D-Luxe Burger, a Disney-owned and operated restaurant offering “gourmet burgers made from a signature blend of beef, unique toppings and freshly baked buns.” Also on the menu: chicken and veggie burgers, hand-cut fries and dipping sauces. You’ll also be able to try artisans gelato shakes. If the burgers and fries are as good as the Shack Shack (please!), they’ll have a winner.

There are great Mexican restaurants in Epcot, of course, but Tablas Frontera is the first to bring a dedicated Mexican theme to Disney Springs. Celebrity chef Rick Bayless is known for his contemporary approach to traditional Mexican cuisine. The twist in the case: grilled meats, seafood and vegetables are served family-style on planks — or “tablas” — to “promote sharing and togetherness.” Bayless has authored a number of cookbooks and is host of the PBS series “Mexico: One Plate at a Time.”

The voids we didn’t know existed

There are a lot of bakeries and dessert spots around Disney World. There’s even going to be a cupcake vending machine at Disney Springs. But there isn’t anyplace that combines decadent desserts with glasses of Champagne. Until Amorette’s Patisserie opens, that is. As Disney describes it: “Amorette’s means “little loves,” which is evident in the care poured into creating the shop’s sweet treats. Timeless classic and contemporary pastries are the stars in this unique high-end pastry shop owned and operated by Disney. Custom cakes are truly a work of art and are available for immediate purchase or for pre-order. Champagne selections by the glass and handcrafted hot chocolates only a pastry artist could create allow for a truly indulgent experience.”

And finally … one more thing we never knew we needed until now: a moonshine bar. Chef Art Smith is behind Homecoming — Florida Kitchen and Shine Bar. The food will be inspired by the Sunshine State and will feature Southern dishes like homemade pimento cheese, deviled eggs, shrimp and grit, and fried chicken. But the Shine Bar? That’s something totally new, featuring cocktails, punches and coolers based on moonshine. Another celebrity chef, Smith is a Florida native with a well-known passion for Florida.
If nothing else, these last two will surely inspire a lot of “drink around Disney Springs” experiments.
