Marcelo Avelar wins 2016 5K, 10K and Disney World Half-Marathon races

Marcelo Avelar won his third race in in three days at Disney World.

Marcelo Avelar, 31, from Sao Paulo, Brazil jumps for joy after winning the
Walt Disney World Half Marathon on Jan. 9. Avelar ran the race in 1:10:17,
tying his personal-best half marathon time. In winning the half marathon,
Avelar completed a runner’s “hat trick.” He won the 5K and 10K as well. 

The 31-year-old runner from Sao Paulo, Brazil finished first in the 5K race on Jan. 7, 10K on Jan. 8 and the Half Marathon on Jan. 9. He is now preparing for the Walt Disney Marathon on Jan. 10, 2016.

Avelar finished the half marathon in 1:10:17, tying his personal fastest half-marathon time. This was Avelar’s first-ever trip to Disney World.

Megan Curham, 20, from Warren, New Jersey, was the women’s top finisher. Her time of 1:14:29 qualifiers her for the U.S. Olympic Trials for the marathon, which take place in February.
