Captain EO closing at Epcot to be replaced by new Disney/Pixar experience
“Captain EO” will close on Dec. 6, 2015 at Epcot in Disney World and be replaced by a new 4D Disney and Pixar animated shorts, Disney has announced.
“Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival” will include a look into the visionary minds behind some of the world’s most iconic animated films today, according to the Disney Parks Blog.
Just as with Captain EO and Honey I Shrunk the Audience, those entering will wear 3D glasses for the the three animated shorts.
Captain EO features Michael Jackson as the captain of a ragtag crew on a mission to deliver a gift to the Supreme Leader, an alien queen ruling over a world of rotting, twisted metal and steaming vents.
The attraction opened on Sept.12, 1986 in the Future World land at Epcot. The attraction was then closed on July 6, 1994 to make way for the Honey, I Shrunk the Audience attraction.
Captain EO then returned on July 2, 2010. The movie was displaced shortly for the preview of “Tomorrowland,” starring George Clooney and then Pixar’s “Inside Out.”
