ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas — and more
Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas |
ABC Family apparently couldn’t squeeze all its Christmas programming into its annual “25 Days of Christmas” this year, so it’s adding an 8-day countdown to the schedule.
The complete schedule is below, but some of the highlights include:
- For the first time, the 25 Days of Christmas will include newly remastered versions of two Jim Henson classics, “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas” and “The Bells of Fraggle Rock” (Dec. 12 and 13). We put the hour-long 1977 Emmet Otter holiday special on our own list of Disney Christmas classics last year, so we’re delighted to see it in the lineup this year. “The Bells of Fraggle Rock” was a solstice episode of the 1980s HBO series. Alas, there’s still no “Muppet Christmas Carol” on the schedule.
- A lot of your favorite Pixar peeps are in the lineup, including the Incredibles, Ratatouille, Nemo and the gang, and the Toy Story toys.
- Many Rankin/Bass Christmas specials from back in the day are here, including “Rudolph’s Shiny New Year” and “The Year Without a Santa Claus” — but no “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
- Many modern holiday classics, including “Elf” and “The Santa Claus.”
- My annual viewing of “Love Actually” (Dec. 7 and 17).
- The network will be premiering a new series, “The Shadowhunters,” in January. During the walkup to Christmas, it will air a making-of special Dec. 6. Also having specials: “Pretty Little Liars” and “Young and Hungry.”
All times listed are Eastern and Pacific times.
