New ‘Frozen’ stage show planned for California Adventure
Prince Ali is making way for the Ice Queen. The long-running live “Aladdin” show at California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater will be replaced next year by a theatrical production of “Frozen.”
The Disney Parks Blog promises the new show will have “elaborate costumes and sets, stunning special effects and surprising scenic transformations.” It is scheduled to open next summer, and “Aladdin” will take its final bow Jan. 10.
“Our stage production of ‘Frozen’ will stay true to the heart and
soul of the film,” imagineer Dana Harrel told the blog. “Anna and Elsa
will carry the audience on an emotional journey that includes
show-stopping production numbers and a few unique theatrical twists. We
can’t wait for everyone to see it!”
Disney has been rolling out smaller-scale “Frozen” attractions across its theme parks, including sing-alongs at both California Adventure and Hollywood Studios in Florida and meet-and-greets on both coats. And “Frozen Summer Fun” has taken over Hollywood Studios for the past two summers. But this new show will be just the second large-scale “Frozen” attraction, both of which are scheduled to open next year. The other, a ride called Frozen Ever After, is taking over the Norway Pavilion in Epcot.
