Duffy the Disney Bear is getting evicted from Epcot in October.
Mickey Mouse’s bear has his meet and great in the World Showcase area, but his last day will be Oct. 3. On Oct. 4, Daisy Duck will take his space. The change is part of Disney World’s regular review of its entertainment options, a spokeswoman told the Orlando Sentinel.
Though Duffy was created and sold in Orlando in 2002, the bear became popular after Tokyo Disneyland adopted him, gave him a backstory and marketed him.
The back story, according to Disney goes like this: “Mickey Mouse was getting ready to set sail on a long sea voyage. Minnie Mouse made him a special teddy bear to take with him so he would never be lonely. Minnie presented her hand sewn bear to Mickey in a duffel bag. Mickey loved the bear and named him Duffy.”
