Walt Disney was such a train fanatic he brought his love of trains to Disneyland. (Take a photo tour of Walt Disney’s original Carolwood train barn here.) In fact, when Disneyland first opened the trains that were used were not owned by Disneyland or the Walt Disney Company. They were Walt’s personal property. He eventually sold them to Disneyland.)
Four of the five engines on the Disneyland Railroad are named for founders or executives of the Santa Fe Railroad. The attraction when the park opened was was originally known as the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad. The fifth engine, the “Ward Kimball,” is named for Disney Legend, animator and train enthusiast Ward Kimball.
