Star Wars half marathon race to debut at Disney World in 2016
After introducing a Star Wars themed race at Disneyland last year, Disney will now have a Star Wars themed half-marathon at Disney World.
The “Star Wars Half Marathon – the Dark Side” will take place April 14-17, 2016 at Disney World. The Disneyland race will return next January but be called “Star Wars Half Marathon – the Light Side.”

“Ever since we launched the Star Wars race at Disneyland Resort, runners have been clamoring for more, so we’re thrilled to bring the Star Wars franchise together with the runDisney brand to Walt Disney World Resort,’’ Maribeth Bisienere, senior vice president of Disney Sports Enterprises said in a press release.
Race registration opens Sept. 22 at www.runDisney.com.
The new Star Wars race will also have kids’ races, a 5K and a 10K in addition to the half marathon, plus a variety of Star Wars experiences, medals, events, similar to all of the other Disney running evens.
And, if you decide to run the The Dark Side race and then head to California for the Light Side race, you will be running in what will be called the Kessel Run Challenge. Kessel Run Challenge runners can earn a commemorative “Coast to Coast” medal inspired by the Millennium Falcon starship.
