DisneyQuest closing to make way for NBA Experience at Disney World
You can add DisneyQuest to the list of attractions being shuttered at Disney World, officials confirmed Tuesday.
The “indoor interactive theme park” will make way for the previously announced NBA Experience, which is expected to open in 2016.
Once a cutting-edge virtual reality arcade, DisneyQuest hasn’t kept up with rapidly changing technology. Its attractions — such as the Virtual Jungle Cruise and CyberSpace Mountain — have begun to feel dated. Does anyone even say “cyberspace” anymore?
In some ways, the NBA Experience is a natural successor to DisneyQuest. The new attraction will include “immersive NBA video productions and numerous interactive experiences,” Disney said in an announcement last month. “Guests will enjoy immersive NBA video productions and numerous interactive experiences, as well as a restaurant and a retail store.”
The switch is, of course, part of the massive expansion underway at Downtown Disney, which will emerge as Disney Springs when the area is complete sometime in 2016. In all, Disney is doubling the number of shopping, dining and entertainment venues in the area.
