‘Ant-Man’ brings in $58 milion on opening weekend, the 11th highest Marvel Universe opening
Marvel’s “Ant-Man” made $58 million in the opening domestic weekend box office, ranking 11th in opening weekends for the 12 Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
Worldwide, the movie starring Paul Rudd made $114.4 million.
“For Disney it is another great weekend as well with their debut of Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’ to a not very ant-like $114.4 million performance in 38 territories around the globe including North America.,” said Rentrak’s Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian.
Of the dozen Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, the only one below “Ant-Man” is the “The Incredible Hulk.” which made $55.4 million in its opening day weekend.
“Ant-Man” received a strong A rating on CinemaScore, which is a good early sign going forward. “However, the film will also be facing tough direct competition over the next few weeks from the likes of Sony’s “Pixels,” Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” and Fox’s “Fantastic Four,” according to boxoffice.com.
