Magic of Disney Animation is closing at Hollywood Studios in July
Another attraction is closing at Hollywood Studios at Disney World in anticipation of a “new experience,” the Orlando Sentinel is reporting.
The Magic of Disney Animation will close at Hollywood Studios on July 12, 2015. This will be the fifth attraction to close in the past year, opening up a wide swath of land in the theme park.
“Work is underway on a new experience, and we look forward to sharing more information in the future,” a Disney World spokeswoman told the newspaper. But that is as far as Disney World would go, they would not even say when a possible announcement might take place.
During the past year the following attractions closed, in addition to the removal of the Sorcerer’s Hat in front of The Great Movie Ride.
The closed attractions include:
- The American Film Institute Showcase at Hollywood Studios on Aug. 17, 2014
- The American Idol Experience at Hollywood Studios Aug. 30, 2014
- Studio Backlot Tour at Hollywood Studios on Sept. 28, 2014
- The Legend of Jack Sparrow at Hollywood Studios on Nov. 7, 2014
At The Magic of Disney Animation, a Disney animator shows guests how the characters in Disney animated films are chosen and designed. In addition there is a meet and greet with characters. The building was originally the home of the Orlando division of Walt Disney Feature Animation until it was closed in 2004.
The adjacent Animation Gallery will remain open until late August.
WDW News Today reports that Minnie Mouse will move from the meet and greet to the central hub of the park. Mickey Mouse will move to a new home across from the Studio Catering Company.
