Disney unveils new Playmation toy system to get kids moving
Disney announced a new toy system geared to get kids moving.
Playmation involves toys and wearable smart technology.
“Playmation takes the best the digital world has to offer and uses it to create supercharged, real world play. This is play updated for today’s kids – bringing their imaginations to life as they go on active adventures alongside their favorite characters,” Leslie Ferraro, president of Disney Consumer Products, said in a press release.
The wireless system, uses motion sensors and wearable technology to let kids run around and act out stories, according to a New York Time review.
Playmation is some ways the anti video game. It is designed to get kids up an run around. Yes, kids can use smartphone or tablet app to learn their “mission,” once you start playing, you have to step away from any screen, according to NBC news.
The toy is different from Disney Infinity and others. According to the Disney website, “Instead of using toys to create a screen-based experience like ‘Toys to Life,’ Playmation brings the best of digital to real world play, using connected toys, wearables and customized Disney stories to allow kids to play alongside their heroes and heroines in the real world. Since Playmation is not tethered to a WiFi network or a screen, you are able to play anywhere your imagination takes you.”
Playmation Marvel’s Avengers is the first in a series of systems in development and will hit shelves in October. At launch, the Playmation Marvel’s Avengers Starter Pack will include five connected toys: one piece of Avenger Gear (Repulsor), two Power Activators and two Smart Figures – a Super Hero (Captain America) and a Super Villain (Iron Skull).
