Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto unofficially opens Saturday

Disney Parks Blog

Die-hard Disney fans have been counting the days until the opening of Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Polynesian Village Resort. Now the countdown is almost over. The bar will have its soft opening tomorrow.

The new Grog Grotto is a spinoff of Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Room at the Disneyland Hotel and should appeal to fans of the defunct Adventurer’s Club.

The Disneyland bar is known for the special effects that happen when certain drinks are ordered. Order a Shipwreck on the Rocks, for instance, and the ship in a bottle above the bar begins to sink in stormy seas; order a Shrunken Zombie Head and certain barstools lower toward the floor. Those drinks are on the menu at the Grog Grotto as well, along with a menu of small bites.

The Tiki Room is over-21 after 8 p.m., and the Grog Grotto is expected to be the same.

We won’t get to there until May, so if you get a seat, let us know how you like it.

The interior seats 50 people inside, while the outside Tiki Terrace seats 82.
You can see the volcano out the “window” that will likely erupt
whenever someone orders a Krakatoa Punch.

There will plenty of collectible mugs and glasses for Tiki fans,
but not until the official opening in late April.
