Eight years after the Walt Disney Co. acquired Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Walt Disney’s first star cartoon character) from Universal, the character is now going to appear at Disneyland’s California Adventure.
Disney and Ub Iwerks created the the rabbit. He debut was on Sept. 5,1927, in the cartoon short “Trolley Troubles” and went on to appear in 22 other shorts from Disney before Walt lost the rights to Universal.
Disney was able to get Oswald’s rights back after trading Oswald for Al Michaels, as play by play announcer on NBC Sunday Night Football. Yes, that is true.
Starting Sept. 14, Oswald will meet guests on Buena Vista Street in California Adventure, according to Disney Parks Blog.
