Disney Facts: 5 facts about New Orleans Square at Disneyland

From the architecture to the restaurants, the area of New Orleans Square at Disneyland is reminiscent of the French Quarter.

This area of the park was the first new land to be added to the park. It opened on July 24, 1966.

Here are five quick facts about New Orleans Square from Disney:

1. The area is is filled with relics brought back from New Orleans by Walt Disney and his wife, Lillian.

2. The mast of a ship can be seen just over the rooftops of the buildings along Orleans Street, giving the area the feeling of a port town.

3. The upper stories of the New Orleans Square buildings, inaccessible to most guests, house the exclusive, membership-only Club 33 and, directly above the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean, the Disneyland Dream Suite. The Dream Suite originally was designed as a private apartment for Walt himself, but he passed away before it could be completed.

4. If you look closely at the ironwork on the Dream Suite balcony you’ll see the initials WD (Walt Disney) and RD (Roy Disney, Walt’s brother) in the design.

5. The Pirates of the Caribbean, which is located in the square, features more than 120 Audio-Animatronics figures.
