American Idol Experience now to close Aug. 30 at Hollywood Studios
Disney World is closing the American Idol Experience at Hollywood Studios at the end of August instead of January 2015, the Orlando Sentinel announced.
In June, Disney announced it was originally going to close the attraction in January 2015 after nearly five years of operation. The last show will be now Aug. 30, 2014.
“We are incredibly proud of the more than 2,000 Dream Tickets that have given guests a chance to live their very own Cinderella story and audition for ‘American Idol’. This past season alone, three of the Top 13 contestants were originally discovered through The American Idol Experience and we expect the attraction to continue providing top contestants for ‘American Idol’ XIV in the coming year,” according to an earlier statement.
Disney has not given any specific reason for the earlier closing of the attraction, nor have they announced plans for the space.
There has been some speculation that a large portion of the park could be involved in an expansion of Star Wars.
Robert A. Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, said during an earnings call earlier this month that there will be a a greater presence of Star Wars in the parks and more information will be released next year.
