Coming Monday to Disney XD: A new take on the Seven Dwarfs
They look absolutely nothing like the Seven Dwarfs you remember, but Grumpy is still, well, grumpy, and Sleepy still snoozes through most of the action in a new animated children’s show from Disney premiering Monday.
“The 7D” is set in the whimsical kingdom of Jollywood, where our heroes work to foil the plans of two bumbling bad guys, the newlywed warlocks Grim and Hildy Gloom. The first of 10 episodes premieres Monday, July 7, at 10 a.m. on Disney XD.

The series comes from executive producer Tom Reugger, who was the creator of “The Animaniacs” and “Pinky and the Brain” in the 1990s.
“I was very intrigued about taking these classic personalities that are so important to the company’s foundation and carefully nurturing them so that we didn’t do something too completely blasphemous,” Ruegger told the Los Angeles Times.

“We realize that this is a fairly radical approach to them, but one thing that I realized about it is that it’s so different from the original that people might forgive us.”
Among the voice talent: Kelly Osborne and Jess Harnell as the hipster warlocks; Jay Leno as the voice of a crystal ball; and Whooopi Goldberg as a magic mirror. Cartoon aficionados may recognize Harnell, who was the voice of Wacko Warner in “The Animaniacs.”
The series also will air on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior later this year.
