FAA grants Disney special drone exemptions for use at night during fireworks
Disney has received special exemptions from the FAA to fly multiple drones at night at its theme parks. In addition, the drones will be able to be overseen by a single individual in control.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration approval notice, this of waiver is effective from Nov. 1, 2016 to Nov. 30, 2020.
Disney’s original application sought to approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to fly up to 50 drones at a time to add special effects to fireworks at Disneyland and Disney World.
The original proposal outlined the area around Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland and in Epcot. The areas would fly in areas that are inaccessible to visitors.
Disney has been experimenting with it’s own drone technology for some time.
