Michael Douglas will play Hank Pym in Marvel’s upcoming ‘Ant-Man’
Michael Douglas, who just picked up a Golden Globe yesterday for his role as Liberace, will take the lead role in Marvel’s upcoming “Ant-Man.”
Douglas will play Hank Pym. “We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said on the Marvel.com website.
Hank Pym debuted in 1962’s Tales to Astonish #27 as a scientist who tested shrinking technology on himself. Eight issues later he reemerged as Ant-Man, armed with a helmet that could control ants, he could shrink to the size of an ant.
Paul Rudd also stars in the movie as Scott Lang, who unable to support his family turned to crime but was caught. After getting out of jail, his daughter was diagnosed with a fatal heart condition and the only person who could help was kidnapped. To rescue the person, Lang broke into Pym’s home to steal the technology to make the rescue. Pym allowed him to keep the technology.
“Ant-Man” is being directed by Edgar Wright and is scheduled to open in theaters July 31, 2015.
