New Thor movie helps Disney break new overseas box office record


The latest Thor movie has helped move Disney make 2013 the most profitable year of all time in overseas box office receipts, according to BoxOffice.com.

“Thor: The Dark World” opened this past Wednesday in 34 territories and made $109.4 million over the weekend. The original Thor, in 20111, made $265 million total in world wide release while making $181 million in North America.

Disney now has surpasses its 2010 overseas box office record of $2.3 billion.

“Thor: The Dark World” opens in the U.S. on Nov. 8. According to the official Marvel website, “Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.”
