Mickey Mouse poster sold for over $100,000
One the earliest movie posters featuring Mickey Mouse was auctioned off for more $101,575 in Dallas.
The 1928 movie poster belong to the family of a deceased collector in Northern California, according to a Reuters report.
The poster, featuring a “Mickey Mouse sound cartoon” for “Steamboat Willie” was from Celebrity Productions in 1928.
Celebrity distributed about a dozen Mickey Mouse cartoons from November 1928 to December 1929. After that Columbia Pictures distributed the cartoons, according to Heritage Auctions.
“It is likely that there were no individual one sheets produced by Celebrity Productions as they were a very low budget distributor (and the country was in a deep depression) and in fact, no individual cartoon one sheets for Mouse shorts from Celebrity have ever been seen. So this is very likely the only poster created for Mickey until the 1930 era,” according to the description of the poster on the auction house’s website.
