Those running in the Walt Disney World Marathon in January 2013 will go past some new sites, Disney announced this week.
The 20th annual event will start runners at Epcot and go through the three other parks, but for the first time runners will go through the Walt Disney World Speedway track and later go to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and through Champion Stadium, where the Atlanta Braves hold spring training.
In addition, some special entertainment will be placed around mile 20, a specially-designed 20th anniversary Mickey Mouse medal will be available and there will be a new post-race party at Downtown Disney, according to a Disney news release.
The special Marathon Weekend, which is Jan. 10-13, will also have events for the family such as the Kids’ Races, including the Mickey Mile, a Family Fun Run 5K on Friday, the Half Marathon on Saturday and the Marathon on Sunday.
For those feeling goofy and really needing to run, there is Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, this entails running the half marathon and the full marathon — a total of 39.3 miles. Told you it was goofy.
A Health and Fitness Expo will also be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex featuring running experts like Jeff Galloway.
