The woman arrested for leaving a toddler in a hot car at Disney World was a housekeeper trying to get her manager’s approval to take the afternoon off to care for the girl, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The woman, who left the child in a car in the employee parking lot at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, had agreed to watch the 2-year-old while the girl’s mother was in labor, she told the newspaper.
She left the child in the car at about 12:15 p.m. Another employee found the child crying and sweating about 1:05 p.m. The car was locked and the windows were partially down, according to police reports. The temperature in the child safety seat was 113.5 degrees.
The woman told the newspaper that she meant to leave the child for about five minutes. She was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and is out on $1,000 bail.
The child is in stable condition at the Florida Hospital Celebration Health.
