Airlines starting to waive change fees for Florida flights due to Hurricane Irma

Some airlines are starting to issue travel advisories due to Hurricane Irma and waiving change fees for travelers to reschedule their flights.

As of 5 p.m., Tuesday (Sept. 5), Irma is a Category 5 Hurricane and is expected to bring life-threatening wind, storm surge, and rainfall hazards to portions of the northeastern Leeward Islands tonight and tomorrow, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The Virgin Island and Puerto Rico will be hit by the storm tomorrow. Irma could directly affect the remainder of the Bahamas and Cuba as an extremely dangerous major hurricane later this week. There is still a chance of a direct impact to Florida this weekend. However, it is too soon to specify the timing and magnitude of this impact, the hurricane center said.

We do not know yet, what the impact would have on the Orlando area. Here is Disney World’s Hurricane policy.  Plaase not that because no hurricane warning as been issued here, there would be o refunds or ability to change plans if going through the Walt Disney Travel Company. If you have plans through another travel agent, check with them.
