Disney unveils new drone lighting show at Disney World

The skies over Disney Springs at Disney World will light up with a flying Christmas tree and a dove as part of a new nighttime sky show with special drones.

“Starbright Holidays – An Intel Collaboration” features 300 Intel Shooting Star show drones in a synchronized choreography set to a specially orchestrated arrangement of classic holiday music.

The built-in LED lights can create more than four billion color combinations, according to a Disney news release.

This is the first time in the U.S. 300 drones have flown at the time times.

“At Disney, we are always looking for innovative ways to tell stories and create unexpected experiences. We’re excited to invite guests to watch as we explore the possibilities of this remarkable new technology,” Jon Snoddy, Studio Executive with Walt Disney Imagineering R&D, said in a news release.

The drones are made of Styrofoam body and plastics and weighs in 280 grams, or less than the weight of a volleyball. The drones can be controlled by one computer.

There will be two shows per night at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. from Nov. 20, 2016 to Jan. 8, 2017. Viewing areas are located along the waterside promenade between Characters in Flight and the House of Blues.
