Will ‘Frozen’ writer complete the coveted EGOT?
With “Let it Go” nominated this week for an Oscar for Best Original Song, writer Robert Lopez has the chance to complete an “EGOT” — that’s Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards.
Lopez, who co-wrote the music and lyrics for “Frozen” with his wife Kristen Andersen-Lopez, already has three of the awards:
- Emmy: Lopez has a daytime Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for “The Wonder Pets” (2008 and 2010). (He lost out on a “real” Emmy — sorry! — in 2007 for his work on “Scrubs.”)
- Grammy: Best Musical Theater Album for “Book of Mormon” (2012).
- Tony: Best Original Score for “Avenue Q” (2004). Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score for “Book of Mormon” (2011). (Only two of the best shows to hit Broadway in the past decade. But I digress.)
“Let it Go” is certainly the song of the moment, at least for anyone who has kids in their life. The “Frozen” soundtrack is at the top of the Billboard 200 for the second week in a row. The last animated movies soundtrack to spent more than one week at the top of the charts was “The Lion King” in 2004-2005. Still, “Let it Go” lost out on the Golden Globe last weekend to U2’s “Ordinary Love,” from “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.”
If Lopez can pull off the win, he will be the 12th artist to complete the EGOT, and he will have done it in only 10 years. Here’s a look at the 11 artists who have won all of the awards, from Wikipedia:
